In 2003, the Taiwanese government initiated a six-year National Program on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, a coordinated effort among eight different ministries to promote research and development in this scientific frontier. The total budget for this project amounts to more than $620 million US dollars. To demonstrate the prospects and results to date, a highly-focused event, dubbed “Taiwan Nano-X 2006,” will be held from September 27 to 29 in Taiwan. It will comprise a series of dynamic activities, including an International Nanotechnology Workshop & Business Opportunity Forum, Taiwan Nano-X Exhibition, ANF- Education & Talent Cultivation Workshop, APEC Nanoscale Measurement Technology Forum, and a Global School for Advanced Studies (GSAS) Workshop. Many scientists, researchers, multinational conglomerates, as well as international and domestic companies will be participating in this event. The interaction between local industries, the public sector, and academic communities will undoubtedly stimulate further international collaboration and talent development, as well as investment and trade opportunities.
